No date [c1819]. Two large folio volumes. Complete. Page dimensions: 451 x 251mm (16 5/16"x 9 15/16"). Elaborate late 20th century craft bookbinding. Half-leather binding, with original lettering pieces and later gilt titling on spine. Boards covered in maroon cloth decorated with gilt dots. Colourful dyed endpapers. Extra engraved title page trimmed heavily at margins and laid down on a new leaf, also colourfully dyed. Inner margins of title leaves reinforced with coloured paper. Volume One: [ii], 726 pages + extra engraved title leaf (cropped and laid down) + 1 map + several engravings. Volume Two: [ii], iv, (5)-672 pages + several engravings. Moderate foxing. Chip to blank margin of one engraving. Thomas Haweis (1734-1820) was the rector of Aldwinkle, Northhamptonshire, and one of the founders of the London Missionary Society. His commentary on the Bible was first published in 1765. This edition on offer is from circa 1819.
